Define the job

Being the only graphic designer, there are definitely seasons of busyness and of… well… just kinda hanging around. There is almost always something to do, so it is often fun to figure out how to best use my time.

I am currently finishing up the Everyone Sent program and resource cd. I am waiting to do nametags until everyone has registered. I also help local campuses raise funds for their ministry by creating initiations for fund raising dinners. I have 5 of those I need to work on, but the deadline is not pressing yet. I am also leading the Crossroads Summer Project. So I evaluate applications and portfolios, and I will be a project manager for the students in the office when they arrive this summer. I

just finished brainstorming through some projects for them.  I came up with 19 of them. Seems like a lot maybe. But then again it doesn’t. Some of these projects will take a day, and they will be done! I like those kind of projects because it gives you instant gratification and it challenges me to do something new, try a new photoshop technique or see just what I can accomplish in an hour or so.

Back in November, when I was working on Christmas Conference, I realized I should have had last year’s Crossroads students do the daily newsletter shell, and the nametags and the t-shirt design. Why didn’t I think of that in May?! At least I have it down for this coming summer! Got any other ideas of projects students could do?

It is cold outside. We got a dusting of snow last night, on top of the snow from the “big storm” this weekend. Yet all I can think about is summer.

This summer we will be hosting the third Crossroads: Indy Innovation Summer Project. It is a great opportunity for students to get a chance to see God use them and their gifts in amazing ways.

When I was a student I attended such a project. I was really challenged with the idea that God could use me just the way he made me. That year, I was part of the team that designed the second generation of Freshmen Survival Kits. That year we made 50000 kits to be distributed all around the country. My small part was to make the insert card explaining the kit and encouraging students to go to the website to learn more about God.

Have you ever thought about how God made you for some specific purpose? Maybe a small part of that could be a part of our summer project. One of the biggest things Crossroads gets to work on is the Indy Christmas Conference promotional material. Each year, God has brought students to us so that the promo materials are made by students for students. No one knows better what students need and are interested in that yourself.

If you’re interested, let me know!

I wish I had more people to help me sometimes. Staring at lines of code trying to solve digital problems can be trying but, I love it and when you are chomping away at some code and all the sudden the right box appears on the screen exactly where you want it…Its wonderful. I get to creatively think through solving problems and creating digital solutions to move the ministry forward every day.
